DEATH KEEPS ME AWAKE – BOOK LAUNCH

Dr Wolfgang Zumdick is in Melbourne in the week beginning 15 April 2013
He is here to launch an English edition of his book “Death keeps me awake: Joseph Beuys & Rudolf Steiner; Foundations of their thought” at RMIT University’s conference/exhibition titled “Drawing Out” which is a collaboration with the University of Arts London.
Robert Nelson The Age arts writer described the (German Edition) of the book as “remarkable” in his article in 2007 on the National Gallery of Victoria’s exhibition “Joseph Beuys Rudolf Steiner; Imagination, Inspiration, Intuition”, for which Dr Zumdick wrote a catalogue essay & spoke at the symposium for the exhibition.

Dr Zumdick is a philosopher, contemporary arts commentator and curator.
He is a specialist on the history of philosophy and on 20th century art and philosophy with a special focus on Beuys and has written numerous books, and catalogue essays for national and international museums and galleries.
He holds doctorate from the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technical University, Aachen.
He was, with Allen Ruppersberg, the first recipient of the prestigious Laurenz Foundation Award, and guest lecturer at the University of Basel.
He has curated numerous exhibitions including;the Joseph Beuys Symposium at Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf in 2006 “Joseph Beuys and Rudolf Steiner“ at Rudolf Steiner Archive in Dornach, “Social Sculpture Today“ at the Goetheanum in Switzerland. In 2007. He co-curated a Beuys drawing exhibition ‘Energieplan’, at Museum Schloss Moyland .
Currently he is editing the first publication on Joseph Beuys and Architecture, and a book with Shelley Sacks : ‘From Paradise to Social Sculpture and Beyond’. ATLAS –a philosophical tour guide- linked to the Ort des Treffens social sculpture project in Germany.

His book “Death keeps me awake” Beuys – Rudolf Steiner Foundations of their Thought fills a major gap in the literature regarding the links between Steiner and Beuys. The English translation will be launched during the Drawing Out Symposium.
